Honours supervision

PhD supervision

I am currently available to supervise PhD students. I have no funded PhD positions on offer, but competitive scholarship opportunities exist at the University of Newcastle. Please get in touch via email to discuss funding possibilities and potential projects.

2023 Semester 2

LING3350: Structure of English

Course coordinator. University of Newcastle, Callaghan campus and online. Course handbook. A course in English syntax. Despite the English focus, this course equips students with the core concepts for analysing and describing the grammatical structures of human languages more generally. The course is designed to be quite practical. We get our hands dirty with plenty of exercise sets.

2023 Semester 1

LING3002: Syntax

Course coordinator. University of Newcastle, Callaghan campus. Course handbook. Advanced undergraduate level course on syntactic theory, including minimalism. The course takes an engaging, data-driven approach, exploring data from languages of Australia and the Pacific, as well as English and other European languages.

LING2010: Phonology

Tutor (temporary). University of Queensland, online. Course profile. Advanced undergraduate course in phonology, covering classic through to modern, generative approaches to the description and analysis of sound systems in human languages.
